I caught Breathe (Respire) (2014) at the SIFF earlier in the month. Marketed at SIFF as a dramatic thriller, Breathe is a French film directed by actress and director Mélanie Laurent and based on the novel by Anne-Sophie Brasme. It’s perhaps the strangest of the films I’m reviewing this October because it’s not really clear it’s a horror film until the final 5 minutes.

This review includes some mild spoilers in the first part, and bigger spoilers in the second half and content notes.
