One of my favorite Autostraddle features is Saturday Morning Cartoons, a series of comics by queer women and non-binary artists. Anna Bongiovanni’s “Halloween” from their series Grease Bats is an excellent and succinct discussion of the transformative–and problematic–elements of Halloween from a queer lens. (Also, I just love Andy, Scout and Ari.)

Image: cell from Anna Bongiovanni’s “Halloween” for Autostraddle. Ari: Like, are [butches wearing dresses for Halloween] experimenting and having good-natured fun? or MAKING FUN of femininity? Because someone masculine in a dress is still considered funny by society? Andy: mmmhmm!
“I’m sorry I ruined Halloween.”
“You didn’t, all those terrible and thoughtless costumes ruined Halloween.”
