In October, I had a chance to return to Japan, and I visited Kagoshima City in Kagoshima prefecture in Kyushu.
The garden of Senganen on the grounds of the Shimadzu estate is a lovely place for a stroll–very “country samurai.”
From the garden, you can see the volcano Sakurajima.
It was about 82 degrees F (28 C) that day.
I adore Japanese pine trees.
For more information on access, check out Japan Guide.
Coming soon: part 2.
Dang that’s lovely.

Jealous! I’ve still never made it down to Kagoshima, but it’s somewhere I’d really love to visit before I leave Japan. Did you by chance get around to visiting Yakushima while you were in the prefecture?
