Since 2015 is apparently the year in which I rewatch everything, I returned to another high-school classic: Daria‘s “Legends of the Mall” (S4E10), in which Jake Morgendorffer can’t get to the mall because his car is broken, and we are treated to three retellings of urban legends with the cast playing the roles of the hapless protagonists.

Image of Tiffany, Sandi, and Quinn in late 60s fashion preparing the gym for a school dance. Subtitles read: Sandy: Like, the way you’re hanging that bunting is a real drag. Tiffany: Yeah. A draaaaaaaaaagggggg. Source
Aside from the opening Sick Sad World blurb, this is one of my favorite episodes. I always like the end titles with the cast in different historical/celebrity costumes. Also, much better way to get your urban-legends fix from a bunch of sarcastic teenagers making cracks at the sexism of the eras in which the stories are set. The urban legends featured are “The Rattling Girl,” “Metalmouth,” and “The House of Bad Grades.”
Watch on MTV or Hulu.
Content: urban legends, but nothing too gory or spooky. Mostly tongue-in-cheek. “Girls just wanna have fun.”
Note
*A brief but weirdly transmisogynistic depiction of cross-dressing. Why can’t we have nice things?
