On Silver Week 2012, I went hiking in Kamikochi, heading on a relatively easy path to Myojin-ike (明神池).
Myojin-ike is also know as Mirror Pond (鏡の池), and is comprised of two ponds, one large and one small, joined together under Mt. Myojin-dake.
I find it difficult to capture my coming to understand the symbiosis of Shinto and Zen while experiencing Japan’s natural beauty. Best to leave it to my old friend Ryôkan:
“Tribute to Gogô-an”
The water of the valley stream
Never shouts at the tainted world
But naturally, as it is
Shows how it is done.
